Menina Concerto, re-released in 2000 on DVD
Live concert video of Lisa Ono on DVD. Brazil-born Lisa (Sao Paulo) is Japan's best-known and most acclaimed Bossa Nova artist. This beautiful movie contains footage filmed during her Menina Concert Tour of '91 (its last day in Tokyo) and footage filmed on location in Rio De Janeiro. Lisa's band is terrific, featuring outstanding performances by Hélio Celso on piano, Hidefumi Toki on sax and Yuka Kido on flute. Participating musicians are listed below. Contains 14 tracks, including "Samba Do Soho" and more.
Lisa is awesome in concert, and this concert video is very highly recomended! But if you live in the USA, it will take some creativity to watch this DVD. As this is a Japanese import, it will only play on DVD players that can read Region 2 encoding (Japan, Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East including Egypt). In the USA, most DVD players are encloded Region 1 and will not play this DVD. There are two solutions available to solve this problem: 1. Play it on a PC. Most new computers sold that have DVD players installed now give you an option of which region you would like to use. Simply choose Region 2 (or if it lists by country, choose Japan) and the DVD will play beautifully. 2. Obtain a "code-free" player (a sample source for these players is available at www.dvdcity.com).
We hope that someday Lisa's marketing people will release her products directly to the US market to avoid this problem. The music from this concert would also make a wonderful live CD - perhaps someday her record label could do this as well! If all of the Brazilian music fans in the USA could see and/or hear this concert recording, Lisa would become quite a sensation here in the United States. BMG, are you listening? :-)
